Thinking the Thoughts of God: Part 2
In the first post of this series, I shared the principle:
Your relationship with God will follow the trail of your thoughts.
This is a powerful principle you can use to increase your spiritual growth.
The math is simple. On a daily basis, think more of the thoughts of God and you will experience greater spiritual growth.
So how can you get yourself to think more of the thoughts of God? In Ephesians 4:20-21, the Apostle Paul gives us a clue:
“That, however, is not the way of life your learned when you heard about Christ and were taught in him in accordance with the truth that is in Jesus.”
Paul is saying that as followers of Jesus we have been taught a different way of life than the world. We have been taught the way of Christ in accordance with the truth that is in Jesus.
The more you engage with the teachings of Christ, the more you will think the thoughts of God. The more you think the thoughts of God, the more spiritual growth you will experience.
The Apostle Paul said the same thing using different words in Romans 12:2:
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”
How do you not conform to the pattern of this world? By being transformed by the renewing of your mind, i.e., by thinking more of the thoughts of God.
How do you renew your mind to think more of the thoughts of God? Simple…by engaging more with the teachings of Christ in accordance with the truth that is in Jesus.
How do I practically accomplish this in my life? By reading and studying the Bible. You can also listen to the Bible. It’s an incredibly easy way to get Scripture into your heart and mind.
Listen to the Bible on your commute to work, at the gym, while you’re cleaning the kitchen, or tidying up the garage. Every moment spent listening to the Bible is a moment of engaging more in the teachings of Christ in accordance with the truth that is in Jesus.
Over the years I have used many tools to listen to the Bible. Back in the day it was cassette tapes in a handheld player while running. Today, I love my SpokenWord Audio Bible App. Since I always have my smartphone with me I always have my Bible with me.
As you listen to the Bible more, you will think more of the thoughts of God, and you will experience more spiritual growth.
