Close to giving up?

Are you close to giving up?

Working on your spiritual growth is hard. Really hard. Are you close to giving up? Sometimes I feel that way, especially after a failure. Yet I am reminded that because God is God the only way to ultimately fail at our spiritual growth is to give up trying to achieve it.

Galatians 6:9 says, “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”

Let us not become weary….why would God say that? Because God knows when we serve him we become weary. It is hard to do the things God wants.

In doing good…God wants us to continue doing good even when it is tiring, even when we want to give up. Working on your spiritual growth is part of doing good. Reading the Bible, praying, serving others, giving to those in need, attending worship services and Bible studies, etc. These can get tiring. But here is why you can’t give up.

For at the proper time…this is important…the proper time is always God’s time. Have you ever wondered why God did not give you what you wanted when you wanted it? God always moves in the proper time. In my experience God’s proper time is usually later than mine!

We will reap a harvest…The other day in my town I watched a huge reaper filling a big truck with wheat that had just been harvested from the field. It was an amazing site. All this wheat pouring into the truck. That is what your spiritual growth harvest is like. It took a long time for that wheat to grow. I know because I drive by the field a lot. It is the same with your spiritual growth. It takes time. The good news is as you commit to growing spiritually you will reap a harvest of spiritual growth…

If we do not give up…I am so glad the if is in that phrase. The Bible does not say you will fail if you stink, if you are a sinner, if you are not smart enough…whatever. The Bible says you will only fail to reap a harvest if you give up. That’s it. It is really that simple. If you do not give up and you continue to strive for your spiritual growth, you cannot fail. You will not fail. You will in God’s time grow spiritually.

Today are you close to giving up spiritually. We all feel that way at times. Remember, don’t ever give up…ever. Your spiritual growth is too important.

What one spiritual activity can you engage in today to help yourself not give up and continue growing spiritually?
