A Screenshot from God
I’m not a very technologically inclined person. In fact, technology is very challenging for me…like starting this blog.
Fortunately I have a friend named Derek. Derek knows technology. So when I have a problem Derek helps me.
He knows if he were to tell me how to do something technologically, such as post this blog, shorten this url, approve a comment, etc., there is no way I could get from his description to actually getting it done.
Yep, technology often makes me feel really dumb.
Because of my tech limitations when I need to learn something new–like figure out google analytics–Derek puts together a guide for me with step by step examples of how to do it, complete with screenshots!
Yes, folks, when Derek writes in my guide “click on this button” he includes a screenshot of the button with the mouse cursor over it. Otherwise I might not be able to find the button!
God uses the same approach with us spiritually. He knows we are spiritually challenged. Therefore God has included a “screenshot” of what He wants from us.
Paul talks about this in Ephesians 5:1 when he writes, “Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children.”
So God has not just taught us in the Bible what He desires. God has actually provided a “screenshot” in the person of Jesus. Jesus as the Son of God is the example God the Father desires us to follow.
This means I don’t have to figure out what God wants, I simply need to become more and more like Jesus.
It is as you become more and more like Jesus you will begin to experience the spiritual growth you desire.
And God even gives us the reason we should become more like Jesus when He says we are dearly loved children. Each word in this phrase is very important:
We are children of God.
We are loved as children of God
We are not only loved…we are dearly loved!
We should follow God’s example because God loves us.
We should follow God’s example because we love God.
And what’s the benefit of following God’s example? Greater spiritual growth.
Let’s follow God’s example today and increase our spiritual growth.
