Which Race Are You Running?

Recently I read an article from Business Insider entitled “27 Executives Who Wake Up Really Early.”

For example, Tim Cook, Apple CEO, is known for sending out company emails at 4:30 AM. Jack Dorsey, Square CEO, wakes up at 5:30 AM to meditate and run 6 miles. Richard Branson, founder of the Virgin Group, wakes up at 5:45 even when staying on his private island.

I don’t think I would wake up at 5:45 if I owned my own private island!

Each of the individuals in the article wake up very early to run a company.

So here is the question. If you were to wake up as early as these CEO’s, what would you do with your extra time? What would you invest your time in?

This really raises the question of which race are you running? It is an important question because the Bible compares our life to a race in Hebrews 12:1, “…and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.”

Because your life is like a race, 1 Corinthians 1:24 tells us how to run:

“Do you know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the price? Run in such a way as to get the prize.”

So God wants us to run in such a way as to get the prize?

So how…how do you run your race of life so you get the prize?

Hebrews 12:2 gives us the answer: “Fixing our eyes on Jesus.”

The world is placing a race before you. Maybe it’s climbing the corporate ladder, building your business, or simply accumulating more stuff. Some call this the “rat race.”

Heaven is placing another race before you. This is the race of your spiritual growth.

One day the final whistle will sound, the final buzzer will go off. On that day you will meet Jesus. When you meet Jesus, which race will you have run the best? The world’s race or your spiritual race?

Let’s fix our eyes on Jesus today so we run in such a way as to get the prize.

And if you can get up as early as the 27 CEO’s, go for it. Just remember to devote your extra time to your heavenly race instead of your worldly race.
